As our name implies the main impression of our organziation is that of the people from Augusta County Virginia. For a long time in the 18th centuryreenactment community it's been felt that militia impressions were the simplest impressions andfolks who simply didn't have a uniform could be labeled "militia". Militia impressions have also been viewed as one that didn't need to drill or act in a military manner because "after all they were only militia".

The ACM works very hard to break down these misconceptions and strive to be as accurate in ouor clothes and accoutremnts as possible. We also keep a military bearing at events and can be seen doing drill, posting guards and other fatigue duty you would have seen in an 18th century military camp.

Since militias weren't normally issued a standard uniform this allows for more oa a mixture of working class clothes in our impression. This also makes every member of the group responsible for dcoumenting and reseaching the gear they are wearing/using. While this can be a bit overwhelming for a new recruit members of the company are willing to share research and offer advice. We use period narratives, runaway ads and estate inventories to search for the common dress of our 18th century counterparts.
